Our client, WSS, is a nationally known shoe retailer focusing within the urban market. With their recent sustained growth, they are looking to fill a Senior Director of Logistics position reporting to the Vice President of Distribution.

The Senior Director of Logistics will oversee all aspects of Warehousing, Distribution, and the Inbound and Outbound Transportation operations. This person will develop and implement distribution strategies for the business which optimize total system cost while providing the appropriate level of service needed to support the business.

  • Actively participate as a member of the DC leadership team on a variety of Distribution Center operational issues.
  • Partner with the DC Inbound / Outbound Manager to incorporate continuous improvements into daily operations.
  • Provide leadership for all inbound and outbound transportation operations including receiving, loading, outbound transportation and delivery
  • Directly supervise the DC Inbound / Outbound manager
  • Assess long range transportation strategies (Texas, outer markets) to determine best methods for product distribution to lower costs while delivering acceptable service levels. Recommend process improvement opportunities to enhance the overall store delivery process.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with store operations leaders and merchandising teams in the development of distribution and transportation strategies. 
  • Lead competitive bidding process with carriers both on the inbound and outbound side.  Assess rate structures and service commitments to insure most competitive arrangements. Manage provider relationships and compliance to contracts. 
  • Develop and monitor transportation performance metrics to help better manage cost and delivery. Develop ongoing method of measuring capacity utilization and unit cost for delivery by route / store.
  • Adopt outbound shipping best practices to reduce cost and improve delivery and service levels.
  • Be a strategic partner with the VP Distribution regarding distribution strategies for Texas and outer market expansion, including use of secondary distribution points, 3PL’s, etc.
  • Partner with Buyers and Merchandising teams to review inbound shipping arrangements, rates and evaluate freight forwarders and drayage operators.  Determine best routing methods for inbound shipments.
  • Be an active resource that stays current with various Transportation, OSHA and private fleet regulations.
  • Contribute to leadership of a variety of other strategic supply chain initiatives as capability grows and core transportation opportunities are achieved.
  • Enforce safety procedures and policy

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, supply chain, operations management, engineering or related area.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently; the ability to speak Spanish is an asset
  • At least 7 plus years of leadership experience leading a workforce of 50 or more people in a related supply chain operation.
  • Minimum 5 years of transportation management experience
  • Experience with contract and rate negotiations
  • Familiarity with Lean concepts in manufacturing or supply chain operations
  • Proven record of business results improvement and organization development
