Our client, based in Los Angeles/ Long Beach CA, is a maritime cargo terminal operating company that provides stevedore and terminal services major ocean shippers. They are currently searching for a General Manager of either Rail, Yard/Gate or Vessel to join their team. They are seeking a motivated leader who can manage a diverse team as well as varied responsibilities and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Locations:
Los Angeles/ Long Beach

Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with Director of Operations to align strategic vision for Vessel operation with overall strategies for maximizing productivity and safety.
• Demonstrated safety leadership.
• Manage direct labor cost of over $100 million+ annually; develop annual budget with assistance from operation managers and action plans to achieve target cost and productivity levels; manage timely and accurate analysis of profitability projections, trends and progress.
• Direct and manage operation managers; build, lead and support operation managers to develop processes, procedures, tactics and metrics to drive profitability.
• Increase management's effectiveness by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining operation managers; communicating values, strategies, and objectives; assigning accountabilities; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; developing incentives; developing a climate for offering information and opinions; providing educational opportunities.
• Coordinate with the General Manager of Yard/Gate and General Manager of Rail to ensure a first place level of performance of the facility in the PMA productivity measurement.
• Drive team in implementing and training on new technology deployments.

Requirements:
• Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or a four year degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
• Over 10 years related experience and or training, preferably in transportation, terminal and/or customer service. Minimum of 5 years managerial and/or supervisory experience in a terminal.
• An extremely well organized and self-directed individual and a team player.
• An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of the organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated planning ability: the ability to think ahead and plan over a 1-2 year time span.
• Proven experience in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
• Ability to manage and deploy Terminal operating systems; strong technical skills in continuous process improvement.
• Demonstrated ability in budget preparation and fiscal management.
• Strong customer orientated focus; excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills.
• Demonstrated ability to train and motivate people to achieve objectives; excellent negotiation skills and change management experience.
