Director of Dedicated Linehaul/Fleet Operations

As a leader in consumer products and dedicated transportation, our client is seeking a Director of Dedicated Linehaul/Fleet Operations to run the entire company’s transportation program. The individual will support business process improvement and customer experience interactives by providing analytical and project management support. Strong leadership skills will be paramount in driving this division within a $100M transportation program.


The Director of Dedicated Linehaul/Fleet Operations provides leadership to staff and furthers the growth and development of all employees. Additional responsibilities include the following:  

• Manage and closely monitor over 100 owner operators/company drivers in an FTL dedicated fleet operation in multiple US terminals, specifically for mass retail/apparel/e-commerce store delivery programs
• Financial responsibilities to include P&L statement management and ensuring accurate billing and cost controls associated with office and driver expenses for a $30M operation
• Manage all assets (tractors, trailers, yard hostlers)
• Stay current on all DOT and CHP requirements to ensure they are met
• Review driver check calls to determine driver location and estimated delivery times
• Responsible for on-time service for all load requests
• Notify Customer Service Department of issues/changes that might impact customer expectations of affect load assignments
• Responsible for overseeing maintenance of all company vehicles, ensuring all are in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws to ensure safe and reliable operation
• Maximize productivity through operations excellence, asset utilization, and cost containment
• Be able to react to emergency or urgent situations as they occur, and follow emergency and/or accident company protocol
• Must be able to ensure positive customer interaction while onsite
• Responsible for team of terminal managers, dispatchers and office personal
• Focus on driver retention by understanding driver requirements/preferences, monitoring driver performance to ensure driver requirements are being met, and keeping drivers informed and motivated
• Identify, track, and resolve performance issues by conducting driver evaluations and driver route and hold meetings
• Resolve driver conflicts, problems, and requests to matters such as hometime, pay, equipment, and load assignments

• Managed minimum of 6 terminals and 100+ drivers
• Proficient in utilizing Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
• Strong knowledge of technology with dispatch systems
• Must have experience working with owner-operators and company drivers
• Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
• 10+ years related experience in all facets of transportation/trucking
• Experience in green fields operations
• Preferred experience in third party transportation
• Experience with general financial statements, accounts payable, and budgets required
• Bachelors degree in transportation preferred
